A Certified Nursing Assistant is a healthcare professional who provides basic nursing care and assistance to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN). CNAs often work in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other healthcare settings. The primary role of a CNA is to help patients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding. They also take and record vital signs, assist with mobility and transfers, and provide emotional support to patients. CNAs may also be responsible for documenting patient information and reporting any changes in a patient's condition to the nursing staff. To become a CNA, individuals must complete a state-approved training program, which typically includes both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training. After completing the training, aspiring CNAs must pass a competency exam to obtain certification. Certification requirements may vary by state, but once certified, CNAs must fulfill continuing education requirements to maintain their certification.
